Very few, but …
Very few, but actually it seems companies are now investing more in the idea. There are older automatics like Hondamatics, and now there is an sporty little Aprilia out and Honda has their god-awful ugly and overpriced DN-01. Yamaha will be coming out with another god-awful ugly and overpriced travesty next year.

You know what, just learn to shift a motorcycle.

Question for you, …
Question for you, I’m unaware of any automatic motorcycles. Before I go buy one, can you tell me what bikes are available that are automatics? Thanks man.

Theres a huge flaw …
Theres a huge flaw to this advert and its that the biker is not in the view in the first example but he is in the second example which is suppose to represent the same situation repeated. In saying that though I hope people see through this and really do take notice to the purpose of this important advert.

And only one of …
And only one of those drivers who nearly hit me was on a cellphone. 2 were in an SUV. So, don’t generalize the cars as “bad drivers.” They seemed like normal people to me, they were just zoning out and looking through me for other cars. It’s like the driver looks right at you, but it doesn’t register. I just cover my brakes and horn at every intersection, and leave rubber tracks when I have to. Thankfully a little 50cc can stop on a dime…

But I don’t recall …
But I don’t recall ever having a car pull out in front of me or nearly hit me when I drove a car. Since getting my scooter, I’ve had 4 serious close calls at intersections in the past 3 or 4 months. And my scooter is bright yellow. And it’s just a 50cc, so I’m not speeding. All the accidents were avoided because I anticipated the car not seeing me, but it still gets my heart racing. Cars truly don’t see us bikers.

You may think you …
You may think you see the same thing, but without riding you can’t really make that call. Without riding, you also don’t understand the mechanisms of a motorcycle which can affect how quickly we can react to situations. Most bikes aren’t automatics. I’ve made my comments and I stick by them. We have the same kinds of attitudes in Congress. People who have never ridden, that want to make rules and regulations for motorcycles.

I am a rider and I …
I am a rider and I think it is great that commercials like these are being made to increase motorcycle safety in roads, but I must say that this video displayed something pretty weird. The car had its front already inside the intersection for a good amount of time when the bike hit it. The car only moved about a foot when the bike made contact to the driver side door. Even if the car didn’t move a foot from its position, the rider would still hit the left front wheels of the car.

dland2000 said in July 23rd, 2009 at 8:20 pm

This whole …
This whole commercial is one big hasty generalization. The fact of the matter is that *people*, regardless of what they drive, are inherently irresponsible and accidents will continue to happen. I’m just tired of bikers getting up on their high horse about how unsafe drivers are when they themselves aren’t really any more safe, they’re just less protected. I’m all for more safety on the roads, but let’s be a little more careful about the finger wagging.

dland2000 said in July 23rd, 2009 at 8:20 pm

I don’t need to …
I don’t need to ride a motorcycle to know what car drivers are like. I see all the same stuff you see–a bunch of jackasses being irresponsible and putting our lives in danger. The only thing that puts motorcyclists at greater risk than the rest of us is the tiny, unprotective nature of their vehicles, which was the whole point of my initial post.

HDbiikerchick said in July 23rd, 2009 at 8:20 pm

We all need to be …
We all need to be aware. And, there are always those who could improve their safety skills on both sides. But, let me ask you something. This sounds like a typical response from someone who has never done much motorcycle riding. How many miles have you, yourself ridden? Have you really seen what it’s like from the view of the motorcyclist? Cell phone drivers, putting on makeup, eating, changing cd’s, anything that diverts the driver’s attention puts us in great danger. Think about it.

This is what we …
This is what we call a hasty generalization of all motorcyclists. Don’t judge the motorcycle population based off of the actions of the few squids who buy litre bikes so they can do wheelies and swerve through traffic.

I can’t vouch for everyone but when I ride I’m fully geared, giving cars plenty of distance, planning ahead, and using moderation when accelerating/stopping.

I accept the risks and I’ve actually had to pay up. But you can’t blame us for trying to spread the word of safety.

mygif
black487 said in July 23rd, 2009 at 8:20 pm

I have noticed that …
I have noticed that very thing. Since my recent accident (and even before) I’ve been completely paranoid about any car who happens to be at an intersection or is even following behind me.

Instead of listening to music or something in a car now I’m constantly planning ahead about what might happen and how to avoid it, distrusting EVERYBODY.

Drivers in SUV’s and such are in their own little world, and its because of this my last motorcycle got totaled with me still on it. yukon drivers.

Look, if you to …
Look, if you to argue over who is safer, there are tons of examples of motorcyclists doing stupid, dangerous things like speeding, cutting people off, tailgating, darting in between cars (even in a traffic jam!), riding on the shoulder, blowing through stop signs, and doing wheelies and other tricks on the freeway. I’ve seen it all first hand. Yes, drivers need to be more careful, but please don’t try to tell me that motorcyclists are any more responsible. They’re human just like the rest of us.
