I don’t blame you guys
I would be upset too if my 2005-2006 HD with low miles and with $2200 in added accessories took it to a HD Dealer and asked for a trade in price on a new bike and was only offered $3000!
I know how you feel
you bought a HD because of the high resale value, and if you try to sell to yourself in the classified adds nobody is going to buy it cause they don’t have that much cash on hand.
I really feel for you guys, the only thing that’s sensible to do is to keep your Harley and hope in the future the economy improves and your bike goes up in value
Actually, Bart is kind of right. Harley resale value utterly sux and many Harley owners who think they will get all the money back they put into it are going to be VERY suprised when they go to sell. I have $25k in mine (its an 04) and can MAYBE get 12k for it.
Personally, I didnt take resale value into account when I bought the bike. Honestly, I got bad advice as it was my first motorcycle.
Harley simply has an image that many people identify with or want to be a part of. There are better bikes on the road which are cheaper and perform better than Harley. Also, their engines are antiquated. They are still using V-Twins while other manufacturers are using inline 4′s and even 6s.
The WORST thing about Harley is that most people who buy them adopt the mentality that they will have to upgrade the engine because they are so underpowered. For most Harleys, getting a 110 upgrade kit is about $9k and it will still be underpowered compared to other bikes.
If people actually did research and didnt buy based on image, Harley would have to mke bikes that are more on par with other manufacturers.

If you had actually done some research, (something I have counseled you to do before posing really ridiculous questions-better to be thought of as a dumb@ss, then open your mouth and confirm suspicions) you would know that HD has a program where you purchase a new bike, and IF you feel the need to trade it in later you will get the price you paid for your first ride as the trade in value toward the second. Don’t player hate because you are using the shoe leather express to get around. the guys that run HD’s have friggin earned that privilege. They either put the thing together from a ton of parts, or they have busted their @ss to put the cash together. Either way they deserve respect. Get off the HD hating horse, sooner or later it will buck you off.

No, you got no basis of fact. your wrong. dealers are offering more than acceptable trade in value. but you got no way of knowing that. so i got nothing to be upset about. but you do. you cant even buy one.
-and i wouldn’t trade my bike anyway; i’ll ride it til its dead which will be a long long LONG time. by the time my bike quits running you can have it. i will give it to you. -call it a contribution to charity. you need it.

Keep in mind that all the money you may put into the Harley will NOT come back – only the base price of the motorcycle is what HD refers to.
