About 8 of my 14 HD riding outfits have some sort of fringe on them – the sleeves, the back, the lapels, etc – and I really like the look. On my Road King I have fringe on the leather bags (who doesn’t!), on the edges of my seat, and on my forks. I will not ever put fringe tassels on my brake and clutch levers or at the end of my handlebars – that’s just stupid looking and way too feminine. But one of the guys in my riding club told me he was reading an article on Harley fashion trends and it said that it is no longer fashionable to have any kind of fringy leather on your clothing or bike. He swears it was in there but I’m having a hard time buying it. I’d hate to get rid of all my fringe outfits and fringe accessories since I have so much money into them (probably $3k to $4k alone into the HD outfits!), but I don’t want to look like a total tool either. Has anyone else heard that the fringe look is out?
You can wear your fringe when you ride in your San Francisco , Gay Parade !

On the bike, a little is o.k. Like the bags and seat edges. Classic look.
On the clothes, however, it kinda makes you look like about 1984, y’know?
But hey, just my opinion. Take it for what it’s worth.

I think you are fine.
The leather shops are still selling it anyways!

It is sort of out of style especially out east it seems. But if your bad ass enough you make your own style. Do what you want. I never minded a little fringe on the jacket but on the seat and handlebars and saddlebags and everywere else… No!

Your the kinda guy I would beat up and take his lunch money back in grade school. You dont even know how to kick over my panhead. 35,000 dollars and twice around the block doesnt make you a biker! you cant buy your way into my lifestyle. Your fake! go back to your hole troll! you asking this question just easily shows your not a true harley rider, your just a little follower, if your a true harley rider you’d wear what you wanted and put on your bike what you wanted, not just what the trend is

The real question is why do you care if it is ‘in style’ or ‘out of style’. Ride/wear what you want!!!
I’m not saying that HD’s or the HD rider’s are at a different level… But it seems like the HD people feel the need to fit in with some HD ‘image’. Who cares?
I do see about 85% of the fringe is on the HD’s.
If you’ve got the fringe, ride with the fringe. If you don’t, then don’t go buy it so that you hope that you will fit in. Quit worrying about it, get on your bike and put some miles on it (and let your fringe flap in the wind).

I was told by an HD dealer that only Harley riders are allowed to wear fringe. In particular, Sportster riders generally have more fringe than other models to signify that they are “true” HD owners. I bought a Sportster for this reason alone because I wanted to embrace the Harley lifestyle.
Like you, I invest a lot in the HD lifestyle. I have bought many HD outfits, HD christmas ornaments, the HD bed sheets and HD pool cover. I think that your fringe is fine since it conveys what they HD lifestyle represents and is all about.
I recoiled in horror when I saw that Harley is now offering the “Free To Ride” promotion where any slacker can now ride a Harley for an entire year without making a payment!!! I mean, who wouldn’t want a quality bike like an HD for free????
Luckily, it is fairly easy to spot the “fake” HD riders. They ride the bike for free but you actually need good credit to buy all the HD accessories and look like a “real” HD rider.

I wear a lot of leather and tap a ton of chicks nightly.
I also work at Levi’s
You are right to be concerned. How can you fit in and be an individual like all the other harley rebels if you are wearing the wrong Harley(tm) gear?
Good luck with that.

It’s always in style for internet trolls. So don’t worry

Trolls are allowed to wear whatever they want.
Have at it.
If you really have that much fringed leather, you are a hopeless douche.
If you don’t, and your fringe is just as fictional as your Roadking is, you are a hopeless douche.
Either way?
I think you see the pattern.

Fashion? – I wear what I want on my H.D. .To put so much money into riding gear tells me your lacking social accepabillity amongst other Harley owners.Just ride the hog -keep your opinions to yourself & you may be accepted by these people.Cut out the ” look at me I am so cool " crap – it really pisses people off.

Dan’l Boone had fringe on his jackets. The fringe on leather has a purpose — it wicks the water from the jacket to the ends of the fringe where it drops off, helping to keep water from soaking through the leather.
It is no longer fashionable because the new riders do not ride in the rain.
