hmmm, if you want a real bike go for a japanese one, harleys and gold wings weigh and are as fast as a small car, so what is the point?

they all look like they came out of the same mold!

Been riding harleys for many years but don’t have much interest in the new ones. Got a new FLTR in 02. That will probably be the last new bike I ever buy. Also, I’ll keep on riding my panhead and flathead chops till they toss me in the ground.

I run a 2007 Harley Ultra Classic Screamin Eagle and I prefer the 2007 and 2008 bikes before throttle by wire not cable(fly by wire is unpredictable and a bit jerky on the road)
As for the Wings Yes an absolutely great bike I have had 3 Wings and would not fault them as my style of bike. Contemplating a Wing trike later to tempt the wife on to the biking thing
Like I have said before and will continue to say it is all a matter of choice. It would not do for us all to be on the same machines. Life would be boring
Above all biking is a great passtime and all I want is to be safe on the roads and enjoy my style of biking
Good luck and keep safe

The Star bikes do appear to be a good value. I own a Victory and the new ones with the 100 and 106 CI engine will outrun a 110 CI Screaming Eagle Harley. (Check YOUTUBE) Victory is rated best V twin by JD Power and backs it up with a 5 year warranty on ANY new one. That can be a 09, 08 or 07 as long as you are the 1st owner. Victory dealers encourage test rides many others don’t. Harley dealers just laugh if asked they will tell you to rent one.

In 2007 I road-tested a Gold-Wing and an Ultra Classic back-to-back. The Wing is perfect by every objective measure. It is also bland and as interesting as a good Accord. I got the Ultra.
My buddy the sales guy says I shouldn’t road test the ’09 Ultra or I will want to trade my ’07. Apparently the handling and braking are enormously improved by the new frame & wheels. We’ll have to see.
The Victory Vision is an acquired taste, I guess…
Beemer tourers are overrated snob-mobiles and not particularly well-made or reliable. Been there, done that, paid the repair bills…
Star, Honda, Kawa Vulcans et al: Why bother with a HD look alike ? if that’s what you like, get the HD… IMO, anyway.

No comparison – Harley is, was, and always will be the best (fairy Sportster line excluded). Although those BMWs are pretty cool and can go anywhere. I really like the BMWs but I’ll never buy one unless they start making a better line of motorcycling outfits to match the bikes.

I test drove all them except the Beamer. My first choice was the HD Streetglide. The Victory was probably the worst thing I ever sat on. I wasn’t sure I was going to make it back to the shop. For a 106 inch engine they have a lot of work to do. They should stick to snowmobiles.

50 yrs of HD
I went to the cycle show in Chicago last weekend.
Sadly very few motorcycles caught my interest.
New Goldwings just have a couple of new gadgets such as XM radio. Hey Honda, how about improving the suspension.
From a standpoint of looks, I like the looks of the Victory over the Harleys. My taste, my opinion.
While they are amazing feats of engineering, I have no use for sport bikes. I do not plan on racing, so no need for street legal racing bikes.
I do not care for cruisers. I do not like the popular forward controls. I do not like the seating position. Hurts my back just looking at them.
The big disappointment BMW. I owned a 1978 BMW back in 1978. Good bike, good on the highway. But the lack of refinement was a real pain. Always tinkering on the bike. Never was able to synch the carbs. Fast forward 31 years. Bikes are so much better, but they still have so many problems. Sat on the F 80 GS. Hmm, this would be a better road bike than my KLR 650. So I swing a leg over the bike and take a test sit. Hmmm, why am I sliding forward. Because the saddle is tilted forward. A member of a BMW club remarked, "They are all like that." What!?!? You mean to be comfortable I will have to spend more money on an after market saddle? No way. Deal breaker for me. I am tired of spending my money fixing things that are ignored by the manufacturer. Plus BMW has admitted their quality control has gone down.
One more comment. I sat on the new XR1220R by Harley-Davidson. I do like the flat tracker look. As an example I like the bikes built by Richard Pollock of Mule Motorcycles. So I take a test sit on the new XR. The rear brake reservoir is digging into my right ankle and the shift linkage is hitting my left boot. I am amazed no one noticed this before. So it was another deal breaker for me. I had some hopes for the XR, but not any more.
Harley as well as others neglect the refinement needed to produce an outstanding motorcycle with the exception of sport bikes.
About the only bike that really caught my eye was the Ducati Multistrada. But for $15,000 and it still needs some tweaking to be comfortable and no dealer nearby, I will pass for now.
That is my short review.
Your mileage may vary.
